Project: Fresh - INFO

Project: Fresh

BIG COLORS 2022 (now Big Colors) is one of our first experiments on what a music album would look like. It's a very lengthy process; finding new artists to join the catalog, making too many revisions to the visuals, and managing it with only few members on the team makes this project a challenge. But we're making history today! (and yet interesting at some point). Yobimo have been accepting a wide variety of genres. There are many genres possible in the world; some have existed since the beginning of a human civilization, and some of them are invented by talented musicians. Nevertheless, music genres are limitless! However, this isn't the case. Yobimo's mission is to bring unique music to the world and support artists as well, but can you imagine if the music that we hear nowadays only consists of one genre? Don't get us wrong; they are, well, very good, we would say (that's why they were approved in the first place). But don't you want to listen to something new? Or something fresh? That's what we want to do—making other genres stand out and making unknown artists be heard, and this is what this event is all about!

What is Project: Fresh?

Project: Fresh is a music contest hosted by Yobimo Entertainment. This is the first ever music contest hosted by Yobimo, and it is the second music album that will be released. The event's objective is to gather artists, unknown or known, to show their unique talents to the world using unique elements to their music, breaking the standards, to challenge themselves to go further beyond both their skills and comfort zone. There will be 10 winners and 5 honorable mentions; a total of 15 tracks will be included in the album!

Artists, both inside and outside of Yobimo are welcome to join and participate in the contest, with unlimited participants free to fill up the event!

Information and Mechanics

Artists need to register first before participating in the event. The registration form will ask artists for their personal information, including their full name (optional, for now), artist name, Discord username, and email address. This personal information will be treated as confidential in accordance with our label policy. Once registered, artists are free to produce their music for the event whenever they like before the deadline. Artists and tracks are subject to following the label policy, and failure to do so might result in disqualification.

The aim of this event is to make artists show their unique talents to the world using unique elements of music, break their own barriers, and challenge themselves to get out of their comfort zone. Hence, the following genres are banned from the contest and will not be allowed to be included in the event:

  • Progressive House

  • Deathstep

  • Lo-Fi

Artists are encouraged to explore the different genres and styles they want for this event. Originality is a must for each track! Any genre that is not mentioned on the ban list is allowed and can be accepted at the event.

There are a total of 5 judges in the event, handpicked by Yobimo through various screening processes to ensure fairness and quality of judging. Judges will be announced through our Discord community server and our social media platforms. The criteria for judging are the following:

CRITERIA:

  • PRODUCTION QUALITY: 20%

  • CREATIVITY AND ORIGINALITY: 40%

  • CONCEPT AND EXECUTION: 40%

(For transparency, the scoreboard will be revealed with the judge's name hidden when the event ends.)

Rules

  1. During the registration phase, artists will be given one month to opt out of the event or before the registration closes. Artists who have already registered are not allowed to opt out when the registration period closes.

  2. Artists must follow the label policy of Yobimo. Artists are expected to abide by the guidelines contained in our policy, and violating any other guidelines within it will result in disqualification. When the event has finally closed and ended, the winners must sign the label policy agreement in order to distribute their submission to the album.

  3. Competitiveness and fairness are encouraged during this event. Artists must avoid any scenarios that may disturb or negatively affect other participants; this includes harassing participants, trash-talking their submissions, etc. Artists who are responsible for such acts will be disqualified and banned from the server.

  4. Your submission must follow the label policy guidelines (most notably the article Material Publishing). In addition to the label policy guidelines, your submission must follow the mechanics of the event (avoiding banned genres and encouraging originality within the track).

  5. Artists are required to submit proof of production for each track they submit for the event. This includes a screenshot of the track in a DAW and the raw file of the track (.flp, etc.) Failure to do so will mark their track as on hold, and late submission of proof of production will result in disqualification for judging.

  6. Your submission must be above 2 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes in order to be qualified for judging. Artists are encouraged to put comments in their tracks for better understanding the story behind the tracks during the judging process.

  7. Each artist is only allowed to submit a maximum of two submissions for the event. Exceeding the maximum number of submissions will put the rest of the songs on hold and will not be included in the event. However, on-hold songs will be used for future distribution.

  8. During the production phase, artists are encouraged to submit a few work-in-progress tracks on the chat channel and ask for feedback. This will allow artists to seek suggestions and feedback from our evaluation team and other participants as well, to improve sportsmanship and the spirit of the event. Judges are not allowed to comment about the work-in-progress.

  9. The judges of the event must be fair during the judging phase of the event. Judges are given an allotted amount of time to judge the submissions. During this phase, judges are not allowed to comment on the submitted submissions until the release of the winners has been announced. Artists must refrain from performing actions towards the judges that would end in you submission gaining an advantage. If evidences are found, both the artist and the judge/s involved will be disqualified and removed from the event.

  10. Enjoy the rest of the event. This event is not intended to be a strict competition between artists, but a friendly competition to show their unique talents.
